What should I do before my appointment?

Avoid sun exposure. Refrain from tanning beds for 4-6 weeks before treatment. If there is a visible tan in the treatment area your appointment will be rescheduled

Avoid spray tans. Residual spray tan on the treatment area will absorb too much light energy and result in burning/blistering.

No plucking, waxing, sugaring, epilation, or depilatory creams in the treatment area. The bulb of the hair must be intact in order for laser hair removal to be effective.

You must arrive to your appointment with cleanly shaven skin. This is important as the laser needs access to the root of the hair that is beneath the skin. Clients who arrive not shaved may need to be rescheduled or be charged a razor/shaving fee.

Discontinue photosensitive medications (e.g. certain antibiotics, retinoids) ideally 1-2 weeks before treatment.

Please arrive to your appointment with clean dry skin. Refrain from using perfumes, lotions, body oils, or deodorants.

Notify your provider if you are pregnant, have skin infections, other skin conditions, or have used Accutane in the last six months.

What should I do after my appointment?

Avoid sun exposure. Keep the tx area out of direct sunlight and avoid tanning beds for at least four weeks following your treatment. Use a broad-spectrum SPF of 30 or higher in the tx area.

Erythema (redness) and perifolicular edema (looks like a rash or bug bites) are common after your treatment and will dissipate. Occasionally these symptoms may last a few days if there is strong reactivity. You may apply aloe vera and cool compresses to the TX area to ease discomfort. Never apply ice directly to your skin.

Bruising and swelling are less common and will resolve with time.

24-48 HOURS AFTER TREATMENT:

  • Avoid exercise, hot tubs, and saunas.

  • Avoid swimming pools, lakes, or rivers.

  • Avoid harsh scrubs or chemical exfoliants.

  • Avoid picking or scratching the treated skin.

  • Makeup, lotion, and deodorant may be applied immediately after treatment as long as there is not excessive irritation in the treatment area.

  • There is no restrictions on bathing except to treat the skin gently, as though you have a sunburn.

72 hours after treatment you may begin a gentle mechanical exfoliation in the treatment area. This helps to slough off the dead layers of skin and facilitate the shedding process. The hairs will naturally begin to expel but an exfoliation routine will help to avoid any ingrown hairs. We recommend a body brush, Salux cloth, or exfoliating mitt for best results. For facial laser hair removal we recommend just a washcloth or gentle facial scrub to avoid further irritation to the skin.

Shedding of the treated hair may take 5-17 days to complete.

Avoid plucking, waxing, epilation, or the use of depilatory creams for the duration of your treatment. Shaving is permitted but not required between sessions.

Be alert for excessive redness, blistering, or signs of infection. Contact your provider if you experience significant adverse effects.

Hairs will grow back patchy, this is a sign of successful treatment. The patches of regrowth will become more significant with every session leading to smooth, healthy skin!

Attend scheduled follow up treatments as recommended by your provider for optimal results.
